David Corbet is an Australian multidisciplinary artist working primarily in dance and music.
He has developed and created work as a musician/composer, dancer/choreographer, programmer, director and editor. He has a strong practice in performance improvisation in collaboration with Jacob Lehrer, as a member of State of Flux, and as a founder and director of The Boys. He has composed music for many dance pieces and collaborated with choreographers Simon Ellis, Rosalind Crisp, Shannon Bott, Shaun McLeod, Paul Romano and Felicity MacDonald extensively. As a dancer he has performed with Legs on The Wall, Bird on a Wire, Twosuits, and Y-space including performing on the side of a skyscraper for the opening of the Esplanade in Singapore and Colony (a 10-day durational performance climbing and living on the Victorian Arts Centre Spire). Outside of Australia he has performed his own work in New York, Paris, Berlin and Antwerp.
He was nominated twice for an Australian Dance Award in the Independent Dance category for work with Jacob Lehrer and Simon Ellis.
He founded and edited Proximity, a magazine devoted to improvisational movement and new dance practices, which he published for more than a decade. He has taught dance at VCA, Rusden Deakin, and for Canberra Dance Theatre.
He is currently working as a medical doctor on the Surfcoast of Victoria while continuing his arts practice.
